A frozen frame at the moment the music takes over. Chart time runs on the monotonic
clock through the lead-in and switches to the audio clock on its first reading. But a device
asked to play does not report where it is — it reports a position lagging real time by its
own start-up latency, about a frame. So the first reading is behind where the lead-in had
got to, andMasterClockrefuses to hand back a time earlier than the last one, because a
rhythm game that sees time reverse re-judges notes it has already consumed. The backward step
became a frozen frame instead, once, exactly as the notes came on screen. The clock is now seeded with the time the lead-in had reached, and the existing smoothing
walks it onto the audio's over the following frames. A chart whoseOFFSETis deeper than
the lead-in still snaps rather than crawling — that is a genuinely different starting point
rather than device lag, and the resync threshold tells the two apart on its own. See
docs/timing-notes.md §7.
